Brought up in rural Hampshire, I moved to the 'Big Smoke' to study genetics at Queen Mary College, London University. Following my degree, uninterested by the jobs that seemed to be on offer to graduates in the Milkround, I travelled a mile down the road, took one look at the Stock Exchange and decided that was most definitely the career for me. I became a stockjobber on ‘the floor’ in 1985, and spent the next eight years screaming and shouting at people for a living.
Next came the screen-based era, so I moved with my family to Switzerland and the beautiful town of Zug, south of Zurich. After four years here, we moved to the fabulous Lausanne, on the shores of Lake Geneva.
Lausanne became our home for the next seven years, and the place where our two sons, Charlie and Thomas, spent their formative school years, based around our village of Assens.
After our eleven years in Switzerland, we moved to the Isle of Wight as a stopgap. That was twenty years ago!
In 2018 I bought Paradice Ice Cream Parlour, in Cowes. With the winter months off, I decided, after a lot of external encouragement, to put pen to paper and start writing. It was only after I had published my first book that my mentor, an accomplished author himself, let me into the biggest secret of them all. "And welcome to the world of self doubt." And so the story begins!
